Hi Guys, So i have been asked how i stop makeup sliding off when a clients has oily skin? Well there are a few things that can be done to tackle the problem and help enhance the longevity of your makeup, I am going to take you through my top tips & products.
The most important thing when doing makeup is ALWAYS your skin, if you want to produce a gorgeous, flawless makeup start from your base, your skin care routine can make a big impact on the final product. When it comes to oily skin the best way to combat excess sebum (Natural Oil) production is to apply a facial oil, as odd as it seems 'oil combats oil' but don't go for any oil as certain oils such as coconut oil, Cocoa oil and almond oil can be comedogenic and can lead to blocked pores. A list of Non-Comedogenic oils would be Rosemary, Geranium, Argan, Tea tree & Jojoba oil, Jojoba being the closest structured oil to sebum, this helps create a protective barrier to prevent skin getting damaged and contaminated by every day toxins. Try The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil £9.00 Rich in linoleic acid and vitamin c or Try Clarins Face Treatment Oil Lotus Oily/Combination Skin 30ml £29.65
Primer Primer is an important step when tackling skin problems whither it be oily skin, large pores or fine lines but choosing the correct one for your skin is just as important. My top choices for oily skin are Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Pore Minimising £28.00 this primer is oil free, softens the appearance of large pores and increases the wear of your makeup by up to 8 hours. Another of my favourites is Jouer Cosmetics Anti-Blemish Matte Primer £22.00 ideal for acne and red flare ups, soothing, calming, reduces redness and is oil free. I find when using a primer it is important to allow 5 minutes after your moisturiser before applying and the same rule applies to when you apply your foundation, this allows the products to set properly and prevents it from mixing and sliding off.
Powder!!! Another product in my kit is always power. Now with powder there are many options, such as translucent powder, coloured powders, loose powders, pressed powders and foundation powders, its always best to set your foundation with a powder this stops it from sliding off during the day however to find out the best powder to use with your foundation can be tricky, so visit your nearest makeup counter to get advice what powder to pair with your current foundation.
Translucent powders are fail safe they are colourless and lightweight which means they can be used with all skin tones unlike coloured powders. A great translucent powder is RCMA No Colour Powder 85g £13.00 or why not try Urban Decay De-slick Mattifying Powder £20.00
Foundation Powder... I mentioned foundation powder above, so this is another option if you have particularly oily skin its better to swap from a liquid, gel or mouse foundation to a powder foundation, this can usually be a staple product for someone with oily skin as you dont need separate products and this all rounder can save you not only £££ but time too.
try Bobbi Browns Skin Weightless Powder Foundation £36.00 weightless, sweat proof, oil free and medium to full coverage or if you want something a bit lighter coverage try Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Foundation Powder £35.00
Oil Free Foundation... If you dont like powder foundation there are a wide variety of oil free liquid foundations on the market, these are a fab alternative to powder foundations and can sometimes feel a bit lighter on the skin. Oil free foundations not only are ideal for someone with too much sebum production but also have the added benefit of not clogging pores.
My top choices are Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation £35.00 This foundation boasts up to 16 hours wear and neutralises redness, when i tested this foundation i found it lightweight, long lasting, brightening and easy to work with.
